At the beginning of the millennium, Medellin was considered one of the most dangerous cities in the world. In the early 1990s, the pursuit of Pablo Escobar, leader of the Medellin Cartel, reached its climax. His reign as “El Patron” ended abruptly when Colombian military special forces shot him on a rooftop.

However, conflicts with Escobar’s successors persisted until the early 2000s. Starting in 2002, Medellin began a remarkable transformation. Visionary local leaders made substantial investments in infrastructure and public education, paving the way for the city’s renewal.

Today, Medellin, known as the “City of Eternal Spring,” is celebrated as one of the most innovative cities in the world, with extensive public libraries and an efficient metro system. On our tour, we delve into Medellin’s journey from a troubled past to becoming a symbol of urban innovation. Using public transportation, including the metro and cable cars, we visit the famous and historic neighborhood of Comuna 13. Here, we explore the electric escalators, a unique infrastructure project, and immerse ourselves in the daily life of Medellin’s residents. Later, we venture into the heart of downtown Medellin to visit Parque Berrio and Plaza Botero, where numerous bronze sculptures by the renowned artist Fernando Botero create a vibrant cultural atmosphere.
