Tour to Bolivia – 8 Days

Welcome at the airport and transfer to the East. This transfer is carried out in private transportation with driver and guide.

After settling into the hotel, we will begin the City Tour (3-hour excursion).

We will head to the Valley of the Moon, a beautiful geological formation located near the city that resembles a lunar landscape. Upon arrival, we will take a 15 to 20-minute walk.

At the end of the visit, we board the transport again to head to the cable car station. We will connect with the silver and red cable cars. During this ride, we will enjoy incredible views of the city built among mountains.
We finish at the Central Station, where our transport awaits to take us to Plaza Murillo

We will visit Plaza Murillo, where the country's political institutions and the Government Palace are located nearby. In the square, you can see monuments inspired by Greek art, such as the muses.

We continue to the Witches’ Market, a street where amulets and esoteric items related to Andean worldview and culture are sold.

At the end of the tour, we return to the hotel.

In case this is a Sunday, hotel pickup will take place between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM to attend the Cholitas Wrestling show, which takes place in the city of El Alto and lasts two hours, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. At the end, we return to the hotel (arrival between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM depending on location).

*In case the hotel is 5 stars, the city tour will be done in reverse, starting with the visit to the Witches’ Market and ending at the Valley of the Moon.

At 8:00 AM, after having breakfast at the hotel, we will depart in a private vehicle toward the Spiritual and Political Center of the enigmatic Tiwanaku culture.

At 10:30 AM we arrive at the site. We will begin with a visit to the Lithic Museum (30-minute visit), where the Bennett Monolith—the largest of them all—is located. Other stone-carved objects, unique pieces of the Tiwanaku culture, can also be seen.

Afterwards, we head to the archaeological site (1 hour and 15-minute tour), where we will observe various monuments such as the Semi-subterranean Temple. Here, you can see the embedded stone heads and the Bearded Monolith at the center of the temple, accompanied by two smaller ones.

We continue with the Kalasasaya Temple, where we will find the Gate of the Sun and the Ponce monoliths. The Gate of the Sun stands out for its carving of the god Viracocha, also known as the Staff God.

We continue with the Kantatallita Temple, where we will find intriguing remains such as an arched lintel, Andean crosses carved into stone blocks, and a stone model of what is believed to be an as-yet-unknown temple.

Our last stop is the pyramid. It was a great pyramidal temple where it is believed that worship was offered to astral deities.

Lunch in Tiwanaku. After lunch, we will head to the town of Copacabana (4 to 5 hours by road).

At 8:30 AM, after breakfast, we will walk to the port, where we will board a private boat to transfer to the Island of the Sun.

After 1 hour and a half of boat travel, we arrive at Pilkokaina or Temple of the Sun. Important ruins of Inca origin.

After finishing the visit to Pilkokaina, we will walk for one hour to the Yumani Stairway or Inca Steps, which consist of 200 descending steps. Along the way, we will find the Fountain of Life, whose waters are believed to have medicinal properties.

We will finish at the port of Yumani to take the boat that will take us to have lunch in the community of Huakani. Lunch is an “aphtapi,” a traditional Aymara dish.

After lunch, we will return to Copacabana on a 1.5-hour journey.

Around 3:30 PM, we arrive in Copacabana and visit the Cathedral, where the Dark Virgin or Virgin of Candelaria is located.

After the visit, we board our transport to return to La Paz.

We leave the hotel between 4:00 and 5:00 AM to head to the airport to take the flight to Uyuni. This flight only departs in the morning and the journey takes one hour.

We arrive in Uyuni and transfer to a restaurant. We begin the tour between 9:00 and 9:30 AM.

We begin with the Train Cemetery, an unusual landscape of abandoned locomotives.

We continue to the town of Colchani, where we will visit a traditional salt processing plant.

We enter the salt flat; our first stop is Playa Blanca, the first hotel built entirely of salt.

Next, we will stop at the Dakar Monument and the Flag Square before reaching Incahuasi Island, an impressive island where giant cacti grow.

We enjoy lunch in the middle of the salt flat and wait for sunset while taking photos playing with perspective.

We watch the sunset with a wine tasting.

Finally, we head to the town of Jirira or Tahua, located at the foot of the majestic Tunupa Volcano.

We leave at 6:00 AM to begin the trek to the summit of Tunupa Volcano (luxury category departs at 5:00 AM).

The transport will take us to a first viewpoint (4600 m), and we continue on foot to the second viewpoint where there is a crater (5000 m). This is a 3-hour uphill hike.

We will enjoy an impressive view of the Uyuni and Coipasa salt flats. We will have a snack and begin the descent. This is a 1 hour and 30 minute hike.

The transport will take us back to Jirira or Tahua, where we will have lunch around 2:00 PM.

After lunch, we will return to the hotel for accommodation and overnight stay.

After breakfast, transfer from the hotel to the airport (with driver only, no guide) to take the return flight to La Paz. This flight only departs in the morning and the journey takes one hour.

Arrival in La Paz and transfer to the hotel with guide assistance.

Travel time by transport: 1 and a half hours + 1 hour flight

We will depart for Chacaltaya between 7:00 and 8:00 AM. It is a 2-hour drive from the city center.

We arrive at the base of the mountain (5000 m) and begin a 30-minute hike to the viewpoint (5300 m). We will enjoy wonderful views of the city and the mountain range. Then we begin the descent, which is another 30-minute hike.

We have a box lunch to recharge our energy and return to La Paz.

We continue to the Valley of the Moon. Upon arrival, we take a 15-minute walk admiring this peculiar landscape, where erosion has, over many years, created marvelous rock formations that give us the sensation of being in a true lunar landscape.

Finally, around 6:00 PM, we will return to the hotel.
